I’m finally getting a chance to write about Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I saw it in the theaters 4 different times, so you probably already know how I feel about it, and long story short: I loved it. It goes without saying I’ll probably talk about spoilers, so if you haven’t seen it yet… what are you doing here? Go watch it!
I won’t go into the story or do a full review, but I will touch on a few things that really hit me. The first was later on in the movie when Phoebe calls Ray from jail, talking about Egon and Ray says “Egon Spengler can rot in Hell.” Damn, right in the feels, but I could see where Ray was coming from based on his description of events.
The equipment, and the Ecto were also fun points in the movie for me. It was interesting to see what 30 years does to the equipment, and seeing Phoebe (with help from Egon’s ghost) putting the proton pack back together was great. My favorite item, though, is of course Ecto-1. It really didn’t answer what happened to Ecto-1A, but the theory is after the happenings of GB2 they reverted Ecto back to its former self. Something about seeing that car head out of the police station and drift around that corner is just good stuff.
The ending, though. Even seeing it multiple times it still gets me and they did a fantastic job with bringing Egon back to us at the end. Long story short, I enjoyed the movie a lot. It did feel slow to start, and the ending was a bit on the rushed side, but overall it’s still a great movie.
